ATTACKING

fFrom the centre your team can attack the left or right and control the pace of the game.

If you attack with speed the defence will be running either back on their heels or sideways. If your team has players running on both sides the defenders will also be thinking about them so it makes their jobs even more difficult.

Today we are looking at the area most dangerous to defenders the area in front of the penalty box. Defenders will do their best to stop the attack or push it out to the sides.
For these reasons the attacking midfielder is considered one of the most dangerous positions on the field for defenders.

-Players should attack at speed off the ball, changing their direction if they do not receive the ball or if defenders are marking them well.

- Players should take defenders away from the player with the ball by running diagonally.

The player with the ball has 3 choices.: pass the ball   : run with the ball   : take a shot

Here is an exercise below which will help midfielders, defenders and wing players.
REMEMBER: Practice as you play and Practice everyday.

Blind side running.
Players without the ball can make the options easier for the player with the ball. They can do this by making runs off the ball. These runs can create space for the player with the ball to shoot or create space for a pass.

Training Girls!!
Players : 4 (2 attackers, 1 defender, 1 goalkeeper)
Pitch: 30 yards/meters by 10 yards/meters

In Image (1) x1 passes the ball to x2, who is being defended by o2.
x1 then attacks the space behind the defence on the blind side, behind o2.

Now x2 must either pass back to x1 or dribble past o2.
X2 must pass the ball over the defender’s head or along the floor.

The timing has to be right as all players will be running at full speed.

In Image 2, x1 passes the ball to x2 who is defended by 01.
After x1 passes the ball she runs around the outside of x2 and 01
down the line.
x2 can either pass into the space x1 will run into or dribble towards the inside, attacking the middle.

In Image 3, x1 passes the ball to x2.

Then x1 will follow her pass.

X2 can do 3 things:

a) Dribble with the ball across the front of x1.
                                b) Control the ball then sprint into space while x1 can shoot.
        c) Fake/pretend to stop the ball and when the ball is close to her
feet turn quickly and shoot in one motion as the ball passes her.
