A female football fan since meeting long time girlfriend and footballgirl, Tadeshi Terato soon moved from getting his coaching badges to scouting for male clubs. Now a member of footballgirl's scouting team directing the Asian Pacific region, Tadeshi Terato tells us about this all time 'History team'.
Tactic: 4-1-2-3
We'll play the footballgirl ethos short passing, quick movement off the ball keeping possession. Tactics changing depending on the score we can go from all out attack to defensive dropping to a 5-3-2 if needed. If we defend then we will use the forwards and full backs to counter attack at speed..here is my team.
Goalkeeper: Hope Solo
I first saw hope when she was in university in Washington. She was not as mobile as she is now but you coould see taht if she developed she could become a great keeper.
She did not have the movement and awareness of a Hedvig Llindahl, Angerer but since the start of 2009 she has become a monster in goal. Her shot blocking and all round game keep improving and she is on her way to becoming one of the best ever.
Centre Back: Steffi Jones
She looked slow but was far from it. Jones would be my first defender as the backbone of the great German team of the 90's she could tackle, mark, head and fight with the best. Her passing was also strong and disciplined.
Centre Back: Christie Rampone
Less technically gifted as Jones but has made the best of her ability. She has been around through 3-4 different national teams and is as solid as ever as she grows older. Does what she has to to defend the goal then gives it to the midfielders to do their thing. Alongside Jones she this pair would be solid.
Full Back: Sandra Minnert
Minnert like the other defenders in my team could play anywhere across the backline. The second most important fact is that they would do everything you asked and more. She is a team player who had great positional awareness. A true football brain.
Full Back: Kerstin Stegemann
My favourite full back of all time. When it came to defending and shutting down a player she was one of the first that perfected it by attacking down the side. This gave the midfielders of her generation the freedom to move around. One of 3 players who have played over 150 times for Germany and the definition of strong.
Centre Midfield: Maren Minnert
The best attacking midfield player I ever saw. Her game developed much more when she went to America. There she used her technical ability to thread passes through to her forwards and she showed the world how to truly pass the ball. In my team she will be the string holding attack and defence together.
Defensive Midfielder: Michele Akers (captain)
I was able to see her paly in the 1999 Wolrd Cup final in Passadena, America and she was a braveheart. She would die for the team when others would simply fight.
Less skilled than the other players but the captain of this team of leaders. Her role in this team would be to crush opposition atatcks. There is nobody close to doing that role as good in the history of our game.
Attacking Midfielder: Renate Lingor
Another number '10' from a country which produces them like rain from the sky. Linfgor's passing ability and movement off the ball make her the perfect conductor for this team.
Like Minnert she could hold onto the ball under considerable pressure but with Minnert in this team Llingor would have the freedom to attack and put presssure on the defense. She has freedom to move wherever she wants to.
Right Wing: Kristine Lilly
As frail as she looks Lilly was a legend even as I started to watch the game. Her crossing is the best I think the game has seen but due to the lack of aerial ability in female football her crosses where never capitalised. That was until Wambach began playing and she can thank Lilly for providing her the stage to score so many.
Lilly is a great player and person off the field and will give this team width, so that the midfielders can attack the space she leaves. I will allow her to change sides when she wants and work with the full backs who come up to attack.
Left Wing: Marta
The most talented player ever to play our game and a level of player every footballgirl should be aiming for. She is the example that there are no restrictions because of gender and that thought is a big excuse in the female game. It all comes odwn to hard work and technique, technique, technique. Her role is to score and do it with style..
Centre Forward: Mia Hamm
With all the players on this team there is a level of leadership and maturity that will make the shape easy to change if need be. However as my forward I pick the one and only Mia Hamm.
Birgit Prinz is clinical whne given the ball but on this team all the players need to move around constantly and Hamm can do so while still being a danger in front of goal. Other than that it is pretty simple why she made this team.
coach Tina Thuene Meyer,
As this team has so many leaders there may be problems when the games are not going our way. That is when you will need the coach to step in and guide this Terato ship! The coach I would employ is Thuene-Meyer.
She would not have to scream and shout but when she spoke the players would listen and after all the ups and downs no other coach would win like she.
subs Hanna Ljungberg, Kelly Smith, Malin Mostrom, Birgit Prinz, , Mami yamaguchi,
Young Player to learn from the best: Sophie White - New Zealand: White is the product of what will be the future of female football. New Zealand are producing players with the perfect balance of athletic and football ability.
Paul Temple and John Herdman are producing players of any size who are raw but able to play at a level high above their own. While some country's ( like my own Japan, have one or two special talents ) New Zealand have a growing group of players who are the shape of things to come athletically.
