Letraset
The Letraset business was founded in London in 1959, introducing innovative media for commercial artists and designers.
From the early days of dry transfer lettering, a breakthrough in typography invented by the company, to its famous range of Fontek digital fonts and Phototone digital images, Letraset has always been committed to providing choice and consistent quality. With emphasis on technical development and marketing strategy, Letraset’s range of products has become known and respected by professional users throughout the world, developing far beyond its Dry Transfer origins.
1960’s
Letraset announced its instant lettering dry transfer product in 1960. This was the first ever sheet of "Dry Transfer" - the product with which Letraset has become synonymous. Dry Transfers represented a true revolution in graphic design - lettering could be done quickly and easily by anyone and demand was enormous. What could so easily have become a "gimmick" became an essential design tool.
1970’s
In the 1970's the Letragraphica range provided innovative typefaces designed by the world's leading designers, this was continued in the 1980's with the introduction of Letragraphica Premier. Letraset to this day is still actively involved in new typeface development. We invite the submission of designs from any source
1980’s
In 1987 the acquisition of the International Typeface Corporation was a natural progression. ITC had produced the most successful complete range of text alphabets, in type marketing terms, of the last 20 years.
1990’s
In the 1990's the focus moved towards digital design with the introduction of the Phototone Images and Fontek Display Typeface Library with over 300 typefaces drawn form the Letraset Dry Transfer library and with many new and contemporary faces.
Present
Letraset today is still focused on developing professional art and craft materials not only for professional designers but also by the massive number of people involved in craft and in fine art including exciting art forms like Manga. Letraset’s motto in this digital age continues with their firm belief that it is the amalgam of craft and technical products and skills that work best to generate fresh creative ideas.
Whenever people are looking to get their ideas quickly visualised and then finalised we want them to think Letraset.
