Olympics

The 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, is a major international multi-sport event which is being celebrated in Beijing, People's Republic of China from August 8 (with football starting on August 6) to August 24, 2008.
The Olympic football tournament has been growing rapidly since 2000 a year after the amazing World Cup in America, which took the world’s heart towards female football. The Olympics takes place every 4 years with the chosen city being selected 7 years in advance. In 2009 we will find out who will host the 2016 Olympics.
In 2012 London will be the home of the Olympics. The English football Association have stated that they would make plans to organise a British football team, even if the other countries (Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland ) do not want to be involved.
This of course means that there could be a British female football team something which has never happened before. The team could include Jayne Ludlow (Wales )…Anita Asante ( England )..and Kim Little ( Scotland ).
Well this tournament started 2 days before the actual Olympics giving the world a taste of the best players in the world. Come here Exclusively at footballgirl.com all the best information and updates about the Olympics.
Olympic Mascots
The mascots of the Beijin Olympics were made to match the colours of the Olympic rings.
The mascots were crested by Chinese artist Han Mailin a native of Jinan in Shandong province. He presented the artwork to the world on November 11 2005 exactly 1000 days before the start of the Beijin Olympics.
These gorgeous little mascots are named “Fuwa” which means ‘good luck dolls’ in English.
The names are:
Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and NIni !
When you put their names together they create the sentence “Beijin welcomes you”.
The official song “You and me” was sung at the opening ceremony which started on the 8th day of the 8th month 2008.
The number 8 is a very, very, special number in Chinese culture.
