BEIJIN STADIUM

.The Beijing National Stadium also known as the National Stadium or colloquially as the "Bird'sNest" for its architecture, is a stadium in the Olympic Green in Beijing, China that was completed in March 2008.
The stadium is hosting the main track and field competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as the opening and cloSsing ceremonies. It is located east of the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. The Stadium now holds the Olympic Flame cauldron, which is shaped as a conical scroll. The cauldron was placed on the top during the opening ceremony, so that it could then be lit at the end of the ceremony. The flame will now burn there until the end of the 2008 games.

In 2002, Government officials engaged architects worldwide in a design competition. Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron collaborated with ArupSport and China Architecture Design & Research Group to win the competition. The ground was broken on Christmas Eve, 2003, and construction started in March 2004.

Construction was halted following the collapse of Terminal 2E at Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport, which had a similar design to the National Stadium. After modifications to the design, construction recommenced. In January 2008, concerns about construction working conditions arose when it was claimed there were at least 10 deaths during construction. Beijing officials have stated there were 2 deaths in the construction of the stadium, with 1 serious injury and 3 light injuries.

The Workers Stadium often called Gongti or Gong Ti, is a multi-purpose stadium in the Chaoyang District of north-eastern Beijing, China.

The stadium was the main venue for the 1990 Asian Games, where the opening and closing ceremonies were held. Some high attendance matches of the Beijing Guo'an Football Club are also held at the stadium. For the 2008 Summer Olympics it will host the football quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The stadium was scheduled to host the first ever NFL game played in China, the aptly-named China Bowl, a preseason game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots on August 8, 2007. However, the game was canceled in April 2007. The reasons given were that the NFL wanted to devote all its resources to the scheduled regular season game between the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants to be played in London on October 28, 2007. The game will now be played in August of 2009.

The areas north and east of the stadium are popular nightlife destinations. The Workers Indoor Arena is nearby to the west.
3 Its construction was started in May 2002 and completed on July 30, 2004. The sports centre covers 168,000 square metres, the Olympic-standard stadium has a seating capacity of 33,572, 0.2% of which are reserved for the disabled persons.
