Home to Deportivo Temuco the Estadio German Becker is my favourite of all the stadiums. It is surrounded by lush greenery as next to the stadium is a huge forest which should be really thick by the time the tournament begins.
Designed originally by Enrique Estevez the German Becker began life in the summer of 1965. Locals told me on my visit with Sandrine (footballgirl chef writer) that when the stadium was first built it was going to house prisoners from Temuco prison. Thank fully this did not happen and we can look forward to the world’s best footballgirls under the age of 20 (apart from Italy!).
The stadium was being built as I walked around and will be ready in time for the championships by September. The capacity will be reduced from 20,930 but the outside could not be any more different.
Facilities as with the other stadia will improve entrance in and towards the stadium with more parking and a focus on the green of which Temuco is famous for.
There were already lots of public relations being done when we arrived. This was in an effort to cause interest with the local public who seem to be in awe of how great their local stadium will be.
I can’t wait.
